Really enjoyed this Lee . I think that we are all wary & nervous about travelling again especially with this new variant arriving on our shores. Who knows when we will feel comfortable & safe again...stay safe & well !
Love the weaved in travel tips but most of all the excitement I could feel rising. We are booking to travel to India in March and the biggest question in this new travel realm is what do we do if we are not allowed to return to Australia because of unforeseen COVID peaks?
I might be wrong, but I feel the fact our vaccination rates are so high will mean that the Australian government will never shut Australians out of their own country again. Of course, there may be a new vaccine-resistant variant, which would change everything. We need to get the poorer countries vaccinated much more quickly. Fingers and toes crossed for your trip in March.
All the best Lee. Coming from Melbourne I can report reintegration is a slow process for me. The loss of conditioning is real. Went to Moulin Rouge last week. Beyond fabulous but it was as if the crowd had forgotten their role - to cheer and clap. Am going to fly to Adelaide this weekend and it is a rigmarole. Just staying on top of the requirements in each state let alone and downloading all the right documentation is a thing. My sister is in Calgary (4yrs since seen her) and we not at a point yet were we feel comfortable to organise anything. Following with interest
Thank you Angela. If I were not going to a travel conference, I might have hesitated until next year too. There's a lot of paperwork, which I don't mind, but not much information about it. You have to research it all yourself. I'm very envious of you seeing Moulin Rouge. My friend, the wonderful Simon Burke, stars in it. Can't wait to get down there.
Another tip is ensuring the portable battery charger to keep phone charged. You can’t get in anywhere in Melb w no phone as need to check in/proof of double vac and a different app in every state
I am so glad you're back on the road so to speak. I can only imagine your frustration being the traveler you are Miss Lee. It has been bad here but I have actually been able to move around so much easier here in the States. I look forward to reading your words and discovering what you find in your new explorations. Best of all, and this is me hoping, I will get to sit down and have a long catch-up visit with you here in New York!
Oh Lee, loved the article, can’t wait to get overseas again either. Lost the last two years of my passport, never mind I am excited to renew it and get back on that big A380. Have a wonderful trip.
I've been sitting at home, thinking about how expensive my travel insurance will be now that I'm two years older! Luckily, Emirates included full travel insurance (including COVID insurance) in the price of tickets bought before the end of November 2021. But I guess I'll find out next trip.
I found that temazapam sleeping pills worked best on long haul as they get you off to sleep for a few hours and no hangover or groggy feeling from it 😴
Reading your stream of thoughts it makes me feel like the world is returning to normal and I too will soon be boarding a plane to travel to a city of mystery and excitement.
I love this! It makes me crave airports and squishy economy seats and customs and security and bad food and everything about getting to a far flung destination!
So interesting to read this as its exactly how i feel now about long haul travel now. Not sure i am ready yet or can be bothered with all the extra checks and requirements but we’ll see as time passes and i hear about others experiences. I used to use Avomine for sleeping but it is not available now either and my American melatonin supply is way out of date so not sure what I’ll do, Circadin for jetlag perhaps. Good luck with France I’ll be interested to read how it goes, it’s my favourite place in the world.
My favourite sleeping drug was Halcion, but they discontinued it. I'll look into Avomine. Circadon isn't that helpful, as it's an 8-hour time release. Sometimes I just need a few hours. Anxioton is a herbal supplement (mostly kava) that really works at home, but maybe not on the plane. I'll report back!
Restavit is a really goo over the counter drug. I take two and I'm out like a light. Mind you, I do team it with a valium, so that's probably the magic there!
So enjoyed reading this, Lee. Keep 'em coming!
Thanks, Leigh. They will!
Love this piece Lee. Enjoy. Best. B
Thank you Bernadette.

It's the same everywhere in the world, which is why I just got a new iPhone that has a battery that lasts 2 days at least!
Lee, I really enjoyed this and I'll feel exactly the same when I venture overseas again in early 2022. Have a fantastic trip!
Thank you, Michelle. And enjoy your trip.

I'm working hard to get back to NewYork as soon as I can Richie. Spring sounds nice.

They're not strong enough for me, Robert.
Same here! I wake up in a couple of hours.
They're good for relaxation but I'm such a light sleeper I can be woken out of Ambien!

I hope so, Sarah. Where will it be first?
A week of culture and exploration in Berlin is our plan. Word of a 20 day lockdown Austria is concerning.
I hope they get it under control soon.
I can recommend a great read inflight, especially heading for Paris: The Woman in the Lobby.
(big smile)
lovely read to warm me up on a chilly day here in Niseko - look forward to welcoming you guys back here at some stage soon :-)
We will be there as soon as we can!

Yes, Shonagh, I even found myself missing the terrible airline breakfasts!
Oh, to open that awful foil package and see the overcooked scrambled eggs and bloated boiled sausage! What I wouldn't give...

Yes, I've tried that and it's really strong.
*good (not goo 😂)
